Three questions, and you will know

1. Is your hair damaged, or just thirsty?

Rough, brittle, breaking, over-processed hair needs rebuilding, and that is keratin territory. Hair that is simply dry, dull or flat, with a scalp that feels neglected, wants a hair spa.

2. How many minutes does your hair cost you before work?

If the honest answer is "not many, it just feels dry and dull," that is a hair spa. If it is twenty minutes of losing an argument with a straightener before you can leave the house, that is keratin, and what you are really buying is those twenty minutes back for the next three to six months. This is the question that settles most cases.

3. How long does it need to hold?

A hair spa is upkeep. Once a month is the usual rhythm, and the benefit builds visit on visit rather than arriving all at once. Keratin is a season: three to six months from a single appointment. If you are getting ready for one specific event next week, neither is really the answer, ask us about styling instead.

If your answers pointed in two directions, that is genuinely common, and the rest of this page is written for exactly that.

They solve different problems, not the same problem at two prices

The short version: a hair spa treats how your hair feels, and keratin changes how it behaves. If your hair is dry, dull or your scalp needs attention, that is a hair spa. If your hair is healthy but you fight frizz every single morning, that is keratin. The price gap between them is not a quality ladder, it is two different jobs.

This matters because the two get sold as if they were the same decision at different budgets, which is how people end up spending ₹7,999 on a problem ₹1,500 would have solved. A hair spa is a nourishing, mostly chemical-light treatment that conditions the hair and scalp, and it works best as a monthly rhythm rather than a one-off, with the benefit building visit on visit. Keratin is a semi-permanent smoothing treatment that coats and fills the hair shaft, and it holds for three to six months from a single appointment. Different mechanisms, different timelines, different reasons.

There is a simpler way to hold the difference in your head. A hair spa is closer to a subscription: a small amount, repeated, ongoing, the way you might do it once a month indefinitely. Keratin is closer to a one-off purchase: you pay once and a problem goes away for a season, then it comes back and you decide again. That is why "one costs five times the other" is not really a useful sentence. You are not choosing between two prices for the same thing, you are choosing between managing something and removing it for a while.

When in doubt, book the hair spa first

This section is for one specific person: the one whose answers to the three questions above pointed in two directions. If the diagnostic was clear for you, act on it. Someone with healthy hair that is genuinely unmanageable every morning should book the keratin, not take a detour through two spa appointments to arrive at the same place.

For everyone still unsure, book the hair spa first, and the reason is simply that the cost of guessing wrong runs one way.

Start with the spa and it turns out not to be enough, and you have spent ₹1,500 finding out. Start with keratin when your hair only ever wanted moisture, and you have spent ₹7,999 finding out. A hair spa is about a fifth of the price, and two sessions will tell you whether that was all your hair was asking for.

The reverse order is the expensive mistake. Booking keratin for hair that was only ever dry means paying for frizz control you did not need, on hair that is still not nourished.

None of this means keratin is not for you. It is a bigger decision, and bigger decisions have a right time. Starting with a hair spa closes no doors: when you do decide on the keratin, whether that is next month or next year, your stylist will already know your hair and how it behaves. That is a considerably better starting point for an ₹7,999 treatment than walking in cold. Plenty of people book theirs just before the monsoon, when the humidity makes the difference obvious.

And if you have read all of this and still want the keratin now, book the keratin. You know your hair and your mornings better than a web page does. We would rather you choose it having seen the honest case for the cheaper option than be sold it having seen nothing at all.

Treatment station and L'Oréal Hair Spa shelf at VOX Salon, Suchitra-Kompally

It is worth saying that a ₹1,500 appointment is not a smaller version of this salon.

Same floor, same chairs, same L'Oréal shelf, same time taken over your consultation. There is no better salon kept behind a curtain for people spending more.

Looking for keratin against smoothening or straightening instead? That is a different comparison, and we have written it up on the hair smoothening page.

A hair spa after keratin is how you make keratin last

For plenty of people these are not rivals at all, they are a sequence. A hair spa a couple of weeks after a keratin treatment keeps the result looking fresh for longer, so the two work together rather than competing for the same slot in your routine.

VOX's hair spa comes in tiers (Without Ampules, With Ampules, Molecular and DX Metal), and which one suits post-keratin hair is worth a thirty-second conversation rather than a guess. Full tiers and prices are on the hair spa page, and the keratin range is on the keratin page.

Frequently asked

Get a hair spa if your hair is dry, dull or your scalp needs attention, and keratin if your hair is healthy but frizzy and hard to manage every morning. A hair spa treats how hair feels; keratin changes how it behaves. If your situation points both ways, start with the hair spa: at VOX it is from ₹1,500 against ₹7,999 for keratin, and two sessions will tell you whether that was enough. The cost of guessing wrong runs one way.
Sometimes, and it is worth trying first. Frizz caused by dryness often settles considerably with a few hair spa sessions, because the frizz was really a moisture problem. Frizz that is structural, the kind that returns within an hour of styling no matter how well conditioned your hair is, will not be fixed by a spa, and keratin is the right treatment for it. The cheap test genuinely comes first.
At VOX in Suchitra-Kompally, the women's hair spa starts at ₹1,500 and the men's at ₹1,300, while keratin starts at ₹7,999, all plus 5% GST. Final prices depend on hair length and density and are confirmed at consultation before anything starts. Hair spa comes in tiers (Without Ampules, With Ampules, Molecular, and DX Metal on the women's menu). Published ranges elsewhere online for keratin in India run as wide as ₹20,000 to ₹50,000, which is why it is worth checking an actual local price rather than a national estimate.
Yes, and it is one of the better ways to keep a keratin result looking fresh. A hair spa a couple of weeks after your keratin treatment, then monthly after that, helps the result hold its look for longer. Ask your stylist which hair spa tier suits post-keratin hair, since the answer depends on your hair's condition rather than being the same for everyone.
No. A hair spa nourishes and conditions; it does not change your hair's structure, so your natural texture stays exactly as it is. If straighter, more manageable hair is the goal, keratin, smoothening or straightening are the treatments that do that, and they are compared on our hair smoothening page. Any salon promising a spa will straighten your hair is describing a different treatment.
